ADVERTORIAL

24 charming miniature Christmas trees, each telling a festive story of its own - making the run-up to Christmas an everyday tradition everyone genuinely looks forward to.

Around late November every year, I catch myself browsing the holiday displays, looking through Advent calendars and wondering whether we might try something a bit different.
Over the years, we've had the chocolate varieties and the miniature plastic toys. They bring plenty of joy when the children are younger, but the chocolates vanish in seconds, and most of those tiny trinkets end up neglected at the bottom of a drawer.
Last year, I wanted something we could actually enjoy throughout December and still have when Christmas was over. But I wasn't particularly looking for another Advent calendar when I stumbled across one of the cutest Christmas collections I'd ever seen.
It all started on a drizzly afternoon in November during a stop at my friend Sarah's house. As we stood in her kitchen waiting on the kettle, my eyes were drawn to a row of four petite Christmas trees perched on her windowsill, right next to a steaming mug of tea.
One featured a tiny gingerbread cottage tucked amongst the pine sprigs. Another showcased bright red-and-white candy canes along its branches. They felt so refreshing compared to ordinary decorations that I couldn't resist picking one up.

"Wait, what are these?" I asked her.
Sarah chuckled. "They come from an Advent calendar. You're meant to reveal one each day of December, but I couldn't help opening a few ahead of time. There are 24 unique ones in total!"
She fetched the box, and I spent the next few minutes taking in the illustrations of every design.
Before I left, she'd sent me the link. That evening, I ordered the Shirem Merry Little Trees Advent Calendar for our house - and another for my mom.
I thought it would be a cute addition to our Christmas decorations. I had no idea how much fun we'd have with those little trees.
Starting December 1st, opening our Shirem Merry Little Trees calendar became one of those small things we actually looked forward to doing every morning.

Before getting breakfast started, we would carry the box over to the kitchen table, seek out that morning's numbered compartment, and discover which tiny Christmas tree was waiting within.
One morning brought us the Gingerbread House Tree, featuring a delightful cottage motif and sweet festive accents. I set it beside my coffee machine, where it brightened my mood each time I stepped into the kitchen.
A couple of days later, we revealed the Woodland Squirrel Tree, a whimsical forest design that my youngest instantly picked as her favourite. She spent several minutes admiring every detail before finding just the right spot on her nightstand.
Then there was the Nutcracker Tree, which reminded me of the old Christmas decorations my grandmother used to line up on her piano. I hadn't thought about those in years, but seeing that little nutcracker brought the whole memory back.
And those made up just a fraction of the surprises inside.
Inside were vivid red cardinals, miniature toy trains, snowy winter scenes, sweet little owls, glowing festive lanterns, and a gorgeous Snow Globe Tree. While several carried a nostalgic, traditional Christmas feel, others were wonderfully whimsical and bursting with colour.
We'd spin them around, spot another subtle detail, and invariably start debating which was our favourite. It was such a simple routine, but it brought so much joy to those December mornings.

The best part wasn't merely how sweet each individual tree looked on its own. It was how wonderful the whole display appeared as the collection grew.
We cleared a spot on a long wooden tray on our living room mantel and started arranging the trees there. By the end of the first week, we had a charming little Christmas display taking shape.
With every new tree, we rearranged them into small groupings. The cardinal, owl, and squirrel trees looked particularly sweet together, while the gingerbread house, candy cane, and present-themed styles created their own cheerful corner.
By the time Christmas Eve arrived, our mantel had transformed into a magical Christmas wonderland, complete with 24 different trees, colourful seasonal details, and the warm glow of our Christmas lights.
I sent a calendar over to my mum in Yorkshire, too.
She remains crazy about Christmas, yet pulling heavy storage containers of holiday trimmings down isn't something she always feels up to now. Because she has always adored miniature Christmas decorations, having a tabletop assortment of little trees for her kitchen windowsill felt like the perfect solution.
I didn't know if she'd unpack one each day or simply go through them all in one go.
Just a few days into December, my phone went off as I stood brewing coffee: Mom had sent a slightly fuzzy photo showing the little Owl Tree nestled right beside her kitchen window.
"Look at this little guy!" she had added below.

I had a chuckle and texted back a photo of the tree we had revealed that morning.
From then on, another picture would arrive every couple of days, often with her thoughts on the newest design or which one was her current favourite. She even rang me once just to mention she'd tucked the cardinal next to her small ceramic Christmas house.
It became a fun little thing we could share, even though we lived in different states.
By Christmas Eve, we had opened all 24 compartments, leaving our mantel adorned with the full collection of miniature Christmas trees.
There were traditional festive designs, darling woodland creatures, gingerbread cottages, snowy scenes, and plenty of charming accents that gave every tree its own unique feel.
Once Christmas wrapped up, I stored them alongside our seasonal trimmings, comforted by the knowledge that we'd bring them out to enjoy all over again.
I'm already looking forward to bringing them out this December. And now that Mom has her own collection, I'm sure we'll end up comparing our little Christmas displays all over again.
